Soundclash is a durational performance consisting of a group (more than three) of non-professional DJs. The DJs are only allowed to bring a maximum of 25 records.
There is a ritual at the start of a sound clash which will determine its structure;
there is a hat in which single numbers (the same number as the DJs performing) are placed - each DJ picks a number from the hat, this determines the order in which the DJs are to play.
The purpose of the strict order is so that each DJ has a starting point in the group, allowing them to work out how and what to play. The music played can be of any style but must link in some way through song title, band name, lyric, type etc…to form a loose narrative throughout the performance.
At Pure Groove there will be two pre-determined rounds:
- a 7” record round
- a round where the music played must reference meat
