NEW MUSIC - WHITEY, ESSER, STRICKEN CITY, GEORGE PRINGLE, JAY JAY PISTOLET AND MORE!

Whitey is an individual, no doubt. He makes music that sounds like no one else. He plays every instrument under the sun, and those that he doesn't play, he invents new ones that are better anyway. This is his first single in absolutely donkeys and it's called Individuals (see what we did there?) and it goes without saying that it's Single Of The Week! Hurrah!

Esser is coming into our shop on Monday (17th) to play for us, which we're sure you'll agree is pretty awesome news. We're pretty excited. So come on down, it's a 6.30pm show and we'll have the new single Satisfied for sale, plus the first single I Love You, plus the t-shirt that includes the middle single Headlock. The joy! The Lost Brothers aren't actually brothers, nor are they lost. But we can forgive their false advertising for they write tunes that make grown men weep. Beautifully tender acoustic soul that will keep you going in these dark nights. Come see them play on Wednesday night in the shop. For free! Stricken City are back! Their second single is quite the yummiest indie-pop record in ages, and comes packaged beautifully. Definitely one of our main tips for 2009.

So good they named both an unpoppable crisp and a golfing jumper after her, George Pringle is back with her first single in yonks. Which is great news. Making great news greater is the fact that she's compiled an ace mixtape too, featuring some of her fave blends all melded into one. Grab a copy now. Then there's Jay Jay Pistolet, whose first EP in a year is worth the wait. Why not come and see the tender troubadour play instore on Tuesday night too. More below on that! Oh, and Boy Crisis prepare for world domination, copious amounts of free sex and riches beyond their wildest imagination with a record on Chess Club.

Also unique, we have the really great Violens (apparently pronounced Vy-lenz though why they didn't just spell it that way. bands eh?) EP signed for you (and it also comes with a free bonus CD) plus the simply mind-blowing third release on Phantasy Sounds from Fan Death. If the string-sweeping ride to heaven on the main side isn't enough, label bod Erol Alkan is on the flip to remix it too! Plus, the last sevens in the world from Detroit Social Club (the return of epic, hazy shoegaze rock) which are great. All of them. Well, they're all the same, but each is great. Finally Punk are a band that we'll be hearing a lot more of in the new year, but how about getting ahold of their most recent EP right now? Four tracks on one seven inch is the kind of songs to bucks ratio that can bring enough feelgood and value to lift this nation out of recession. Then we have the Ben Folds-esque delights of Stars And Sons! They're playing live in the shop too! And last but by no means least, the debut from south coast newbies The Glad Rags! Hurrah!

Right, the X-Factor winner won't be coming instore to play their shitty cover version of a classic song, butchered in some horrid cruise-ship singing over-vibrato stylee; instead we're going to have some decent bands. We're also going to have the shop decked out in holly, plus mulled wine will be served, plus miseltoe if you've always fancied a kiss with the Pure Groove staff.... Nope... ok, we'll leave the miseltoe at home...

December 15th - The Wombats!

Yes you heard it here first! We can hardly believe it! It'll be their second instore - they played three years ago, completely acapella in the old shop when they were just a wee indie band and not stadium-filling superstars! A welcome return. Pre-order your copies of the band's new festive single Is This Christmas? - out on 2 x coloured 7 inch & CD on the same day. Come and get your singles on the 15th and whilst your there grab a wristband for the band's instore at 6.30pm. The band will play a special little set, then sign your singles. Wristbands will only be available on the day; first come, first served. Alternatively, you can pre-order the single here.

December 16th - Eugene McGuiness, Emmy The Great and special guests!!

Two Pure Groove regulars that we'll have back as often as they feel like dropping in. Eugene's debut album has been one of Pure Groove's most played records of the year, a sumptuous listen that gets better with every play. Emmy's new single is out now, and her album is due in early February. Plus various friends will be coming down to share the mulled wine and be merry.

December 17th - Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip

A second instore for the awesome hip hop duo who've torn up the rulebook for UK hip hop and who crafted some of 2008's bona fide anthems. New single in early 2009! Free entry, come on down!
